Playback Theatre is a theatre of citizen actors (Fox, 2021). But while we may understand the events, thoughts and feelings described by tellers (and the meanings suggested by their story), we sometimes struggle to embody their narrative in ways that provide a deeply satisfying theatrical experience for tellers and the audience.
In this workshop we will focus on bringing simple but effective artistry to our embodiment of stories, using imagery, metaphor, movement and the spoken word. We'll also refresh our understanding of traditional playback theatre forms, play with some new forms and explore ways to bring more aesthetic spontaneity to our enactments. Along the way we’ll make connections, learn to listen more deeply to stories and bring more meaning, insight and energy to our acting on stage. And we'll have fun!
