Condurre una performance di playback theatre è complicato! Al centro del ruolo c'è l'arte di condurre il gruppo, che include la soddisfazione delle esigenze di ogni momento, oltre a prestare attenzione alle diverse necessità di chi racconta, di chi performa, del pubblico e delle storie che devono essere raccontate. Con così tanto da fare, come possiamo creare un'atmosfera, costruire relazioni e mantenere uno spazio inclusivo e sicuro? E come possiamo anche essere spontanei, curiosi, sensibili e vulnerabili
Quando è il momento di essere una roccia e quando è meglio essere come l'acqua?
In questo workshop l'esplorazione del ruolo del conduttore avverrà nel contesto dell'arco della performance e con riferimento agli elementi della reticolazione narrativa: storia, guida, atmosfera e spontaneità. Ci saranno occasioni per esercitarsi nella conduzione, oltre che per raccontare storie e metterle in scena. Le persone che parteciperanno potranno acquisire una comprensione più profonda dei loro obiettivi nella conduzione, ma il workshop non è solo per coloro che già conducono. Anche performer e musicisti trarranno beneficio da una migliore comprensione della complessità del lavoro del conduttore!

Conducting a playback theatre performance is complicated! At the heart of the role is the art of group leadership, which involves meeting the needs of each moment, as well as attending to the different needs of tellers, performers and the audience. With so much going on, how do we create atmosphere, build rapport and hold an inclusive and safe space? And how can we also be spontaneous, curious, sensitive and vulnerable?
When is it time to be like a rock, and when is it better to be like water?
In this workshop our exploration of the conductor’s role will occur in the context of the arc of a performance and with reference to the elements of narrative reticulation: story, guidance, atmosphere and spontaneity. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to practise in the role, as well as to tell stories and perform on our stage. Participants will leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of the role, but the workshop is not just for those who already conduct stories in rehearsals or performances. Everyone in playback benefits from a better understanding the complexity of the conductor’s job!
The workshop is led by Gerry Orkin and organised with the generous help of Roberta Roberto. It is facilitated in English with translation support provided.

Informazioni su Gerry Orkin
Gerry Orkin è un interprete australiano di playback, il cui lavoro con il Playback Theatre è iniziato nel 1985. È stato attore, conduttore e co-direttore del Canberra Playback Theatre per un periodo di 25 anni. Più recentemente ha diretto una compagnia di Playback a Wollongong, nel Nuovo Galles del Sud.
Gerry è interessato in modo particolare alla formazione dei conduttori e ad aiutare le compagnie a lavorare sulle dimensioni sociali delle storie e su tematiche di giustizia sociale. Ha tenuto seminari in Australia, Singapore, Grecia, Sudafrica, Hong Kong, India, Regno Unito e Portogallo.
Gerry è membro della facoltà e del consiglio di amministrazione della Australasian School of Playback Theatre ed è impegnato nella costruzione di comunità nella regione e a livello internazionale. Ha una formazione professionale nel campo delle politiche sociali e dello sviluppo dei servizi, e ha lavorato per agenzie governative e non su tematiche riguardanti i senzatetto, la violenza contro le donne e la protezione dell'infanzia.
About Gerry Orkin
Gerry is an Australian playback practitioner whose involvement with Playback Theatre began in 1985. He was an actor, conductor and co-director of Canberra Playback Theatre over a period of 25 years. More recently he directed a Playback company in Wollongong, New South Wales.
Gerry has a special interest in training conductors, bringing artistry to the stage, and helping companies work with the social dimensions of stories and issues of social justice. He has led workshops in Australia, Singapore, Greece, Canada, South Africa, Hong Kong, India, the UK and Portugal.
Gerry is a faculty member and board member of the Australasian School of Playback Theatre and is involved with community building in the region as well as internationally. He has a professional background in social policy and service development, and has worked on issues like homelessness, violence against women and child protection for government and non-government agencies.
